Most Rev. Nolly C. Buco, JCD, DD is a native of Davao Province and upon his appointment, the bishop was serving as parish priest of Our Lady of Light Parish in Cainta, Rizal.
Bishop Buco, 54, is the first priest elevated to the episcopate and the second auxiliary bishop in the 35-year history of the diocese. He was ordained bishop by Most Rev. Francisco de Leon, Bishop of Antipolo. Bishop Oscar Florencio (Auxiliary of Cebu) and Bishop Jacinto Jose (Bishop of Urdaneta) were also present as co-consecrators. His Eminence Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle was the Mass' homilist. Also present were bishops and archbishops from the difference dioceses of the country. In his homily, Cardinal Tagle emphasized that leaders must be humble. "Pride destroys leaders. Humility sustains leaders. For in humble servants, God can do and accomplish great things," he said. The bishop completed his Philosophy at the Sacred Heart Seminary in Palo, Leyte and his Theology at the Immaculate Conception Major Seminary in Guiguinto, Bulacan. He was ordained priest on October 18, 1993. In 2004, he completed his Doctorate in Canon Law at the University of Santo Tomas in Manila. Between 2002 and 2003, he attended the PhD program in Anthropology at the University of the Philippines in Diliman, Quezon City. A priest for 24 years, other posts held by Buco include Judicial Vicar of Antipolo, Rector of the Our of Peace and Good Voyage Seminary and member of the Board of Presbyteral Consultors. Bishop Buco's episcopal motto, "Lex Dei Vitae Lampas" (The Law of God is the Lamp of Life) reflects on his background as a Canon Lawyer. It emulates the value of obedience to God's laws in serving the Church. He also now serves as Vicar General of the Diocese of Antipolo. |
